Help! We are planning a retirement party this Friday night for the Fiscal Director who has been here for 20 years. My boss asked me to do a program.. We are going to put the retiree’s picture in front of it, but what do you put on the inside? It’s going to be a buffet dinner, from 6 – 10 PM, with a DJ and we got her some gag gifts and one big main gift. Can you help me come up with something????

My husband has been invited to a retirement party for his 4th grade teacher. He is over 40 years old, so it was quite some time ago that she has taught him! He is attending the party, but doesn’t want to go empty handed. After all they went through the trouble of tracking him down after all these years!! What would be a good gift? Also, I suggested he dress "nice" for this occasion. He usually wears jeans/shorts, & a T shirt w/ sneakers. I suggested khaki pants, nice dress shirt & shoes. He doesn’t agree. He says thats not him!! Am I right or wrong? The party is at a ritzy hotel!! Any ideas & opinions would be greatly appreciated! (Party is only 3 weeks away!)

I was invited to my first retirement party, so I’m stumped on what kind of gift to give.

He’s been a pilot for a major airline for 25 years. I’ve known him for a few years. He likes to have fun and dance…very full of life. Not real old, maybe 60.

Any tips would be helpful.

My mother in law just retired after 36 years of teaching the firsdt grade and was a very dedicated teacher and is a great mother in law only problem is we dont have alot of money to spend on an expensive gift and her surprise retirement party is the end of this month. I would love to giver her something very thoughtful but cant come up with any ideas as yet and thought someone out there would be able to help. She is not yet 60 and loves gardening and traveling and her grandkids. Very into church activities.
The reason Im having such a problem is that the sister in law in all her glory is buying her a laptop and there is no way we can compete with that but I need some ideas to get on track for a thoughtful heartfelt gift that will mean something to her down the road. Oh yeah my SIL is also putting an album of pictures and letters from everyone invited to the party together for her also. so thats out too. Hope you can help and Thanks.

Ok so my dad is retiring from the air force after serving 30 and plus years…. so i really want to do something special for him… so 1 i have to make a playlist of songs to play at the retirement party… and 2 i want to make a powerpoint presentation of his military life…oh and 3 i want to give him a gift that would be really special..

so if you guys have any ideas…i really would love the advice or thoughts….

ummm… here is a little info of my dad

1. likes to build stuff (he’s built our shed, stand up garden, patio, tile in our house…etc)
2. he is a maintance chief
3. from detroit
4. just recently bought a motercycle
5. loves aerosmith
6. likes mainly classic rock type music but also likes some country
7. is known for his barbque
8. very funny (but not the pratical joke funny)
9. been stationed to guam, japan (was actually born in japan but he is not japanese), italy, georgia, korea, louisiana, and other places
10. likes to ride his bike and do spin class at the gym
11. does watch and follow sports but not really a lot
12. very very organize and clean
13. plans on becoming a teacher after retiring
14. loves the tv shows survivor and amazing race
15. likes to travel

ummm… i think that will give you an idea of my father

some of the ideas ive come up with are…

gift ideas: aerosmith tickets (concert is about 3 hours away from us and are playing 3 days after his retirement party), a clock that plays that tune the base plays on the trumpet at the end of the day (sorry cant think of the name at teh moment), pistons jersey (inside joke/ long story)

powerpoint presentation: i want it to be funny, memorable, sweet.

I am going to a retirement party on Sunday honoring two people.

One is my daughter’s Grandmother who is retiring from 30+ years of teaching.

The other one is a woman who was an aid at the school for over 20 years.

I do not want to spend more then on both gifts!

A guy undergoing a retirement will most probably be seeking for some sort of adventure even after he has stepped down from the hustle and bustle of everyday work. It is most typically associated with the testosterone that flows through a man’s system that put him in constant search for new things to conquer, and new ideas to explore. Fun gifts for a guy’s retirement party must catch the interest of the retiree and inspires him to try out the new concept behind a gift’s purpose.

Relive The Puberty Days

During high school days, boys (as they are not yet fully pledged men by then) had been engrossed in several things such as rock and roll, paintball or airsoft, and the like. We will leave out girls in this concept as most of these retires would already have a loving wife and kids to complete them.

Nevertheless, puberty days of these retirees have been lived out with much enthusiasm and energy that these fun days of the past will definitely be missed much unless someone brings back all those well remembered days. What better way to do this but to reintroduce them as a retirement gift? This time, a retiree will not have any trouble allocating time and effort to these activities since they have no more obligations with work to stop them from focusing on these leisure activities.

You may impart a gift such as an electric guitar for a retiree who has been engaged in a school band during his childhood, or maybe a good airsoft rifle to a retiree who has been an enthusiast of the said sport.

Boys Will Be Boys

Gifts for boys go even way beyond the puberty stage. This concerns a pastime of the retiree when he was still a kid. Now that he is already free to do what he wants without the unnecessary repercussions of clashing with work, he may already start with hobbies that speak of the inner boy’s heart in him. Such gifts include collections of certain memorabilia, computer games and similar electronic gadgets, and more collections of things.

You may start him off by giving him a starter set of an interest he had during childhood such as figurines of collectible items like superheroes, even the comic books of his favorites, a computer gaming console to whet his boyish appetite for fun and relaxation, or perhaps remote controlled toys. As for the latter, you may step up the notch a bit for such remote controlled toys by upgrading the model into an airplane, helicopter, or a speedboat instead of the usual car models he had during childhood.

Toys For The Big Boys

As for those who don’t want to regress back to the past, a retrograde concept would be another option. Though items in this category may be a little bit expensive, these are long lasting and would justify the rewards that the retiree should have acquired for spending time and effort throughout the years.

Toys for the big boys would be in the forms of vehicles and machineries such as garage crafting equipment, or the ever popular automobile and motorbikes. The macho image of a guy retiree would be manifested as he is presented with a motorbike. Nothing beats to having one of these babies clipped under the legs of a biker for that added tough guy look.

Furthermore, these toys for the big boys are just what these fellows need to augment and amplify their ever present testosterone flowing in them. Fun gifts for a guy’s retirement party definitely would be fun if the gift sparks anything that would speak of their being a man and living up to it.
