Question by Edward N: Are these ideas for economic survival too radical?
The status quo is not sustainable. We’ve heard that often enough. So what? Some “brainstorming”, “outofthebox” thinking may be in order to meet a dramatically different future, than what we have enjoyed in the past. What do you think of these ideas? And I welcome yours (before I wave my magic wand)
1. All efforts, appropriate, to eliminate illegal immigrants from our jobs, our schools, emergency rooms, courts and jails. Secure the Southern border.
2. Women who have chosen to be Mothers and have a working spouse, go home. Your absence from the workplace and your presence at home with your children will be the greatest contribution to your community that you can make.
3. Social Security benefits paid only to those actually in need of it to prevent poverty. (This was its original intent anyway) Also, eliminate the cap on FICA taxes. Everybody pays on all income earned.
4. Police, firemen, teachers, union members and others on pensions and retirement programs agree to cuts in benefits appropriate to the crisis, until it is passed. Soc. Sec. too.
5. Abolish our present system of taxation. Adopt either a “fair tax” or a flat rate system. This would free up TRILLIONS of dollars presently in offshore taxhavens, which would return to the US. giving our economy the biggest possible shot in the arm.
6. Toss out ALL incumbents in Washington, elect new blood, not career politicians who are bought and paid for by special interests. Both parties have abandoned The People.

That would return us to the principles that prevailed before government took over everything. It would never work.

should I give up on love?

nurse retirement gifts:

...

Question by mizzbee1975: should I give up on love?
I broke up with someone due to his insensitivity.
He started school and somehow he lost me through the process, he no longer called as much, but I understood being he was taking a crash nursing course, however, he did get a myspace page and had very intimate conversations with a female student. I broke up with him because he forgot my birthday the 3 years in a row, invited and disinvited me to his mother’s retirement party, and overall treated me to nothing, no gifts, no anything except one small perfume and a hamburger at a local joint.
I began to ignore him while he made some gestures at us getting back together, so eventually he stopped trying. I now realize that he is very serious and doesn’t really want to me back, How could someone just stop loving me or is it that he never loved me at all?
I however still love him, but I know I’d be wasting my time, should I just give up

Answer by Cathmerine
It’s a sad situation, but I think you need to give up on this one. It would probably help to get some distance between you, maybe don’t let yourself contact him, so you have time to get over him. It will happen if you let yourself. Once you let yourself get over him you can be ready for someone who will actually care about you.

Found teacher retirement cards in Should I withdraw from my teacher’s retirement?

teacher retirement cards:

...

Question by ememkay25: Should I withdraw from my teacher’s retirement?
I am 26 and I spent 3 years substitute teaching full-time- thus paying into teacher’s retirement. I have a little bit of outstanding debt that I would really like to wipe out. I have a $ 2500 balance on a credit line with high interest, about $ 600 in store credit that is already in collections, and about $ 300 in utilities that is very late. My retirement balance is about $ 5500 and if I withdrew from it, I would get close to $ 4000.

I am no longer teaching and at the moment, I do not see myself going back to it. I know most people will say don’t touch my retirement but I feel that wiping the slate clean would relieve a lot of stress.

My current expenses are not what is the problem, I work full-time and make enough to pay rent, utilities, my small credit card balance, car payment, student loan payment- it’s the past debt that I wracked up that I just can’t seem to get a ahold on. I feel like being out of debt now, is more important than saving for retirement. I also want to start fixing my credit and I can’t do that until I wipe out the things I am struggling to pay.

Any thoughts would be great.
I understand what you are saying- the thing is that I can’t really get another job- I already work full-time. And I can’t transfer the credit balance because it is line of credit, not a credit card. I can’t transfer it and I can’t set up a payment plan. My minimum payment is only paying the interest on the damn thing. I know how much I would lose if I withdrew, I am okay with that because then I could actually save extra money each month rather than using almost every penny to pay off old debt.

Answer by Lauren F
No – don’t do it. You will get hit with taxes and penalties that will take close to half of your balance. Your total outstanding debt is less than $ 3,000. Try to apply for assistance with the utility bill (see the LIHEAP program for your state) or ask them to go on a payment plan. Look for a second part time job and use that to pay down the debt, starting with the high interest credit card.

Also, see if you can transfer the high interest debt to a lower interest credit card. I like one offered by the humane society of america via Bank of America. It has a 0% interest for 12 month rate. I also like one at Pentagon Federal Credit Union at 4.99% for up to 2 years.
